Church & Community News & Events
Immanuel United Methodist Church has a lot going on. And, we are active in the community. Check back here to see the latest activities.
We are planning on supporting a team of skilled, semi-skilled and those wishing to become skilled to work on home rebuilding projects. This session will run 1 week of work with daily travel or overnight available all days. We welcome other Church Congregations as well as Individuals interested in joining our team.
We will not know the type of project until closer to our departure. Most likely our assignment will be in a reconstruction project or following another team in a quest of putting a home(s) back together. The team is made up of General Contractors, very skilled home owners and those who have never raised a hammer before. Every person will be paired up with someone who knows about the assigned task. No one will be asked to do anything they do not want to do nor is unsafe. The work week is September 16th to the 20th, 2024. There will be a meeting at Immanuel UMC on August 13th at 7PM (for those close enough to be there). For information or questions please call or email Mike Block (Zoom info will be shared upon request). It is important to submit all required forms by the posted date. Any questions regarding this trip please contact the persons named below. Submit forms before August 12th . Helpful requirements for a successful trip not only depend on the physical on-site workers but the support team to send them there. It costs about $300 per person for the week to accomplish this type of trip; this is only an average and not a requirement. Donation Request Those individuals joining our team who are not members of Immanuel UMC are asked to donate to support the trip expenses. This donation will help cover the cost of food, additional insurance and fuel if you are riding with the group.

Contact Shelley Dawson Smith @ 315-727-0671 OR The cold and rain on Sunday, June 9 could not keep us from enjoying a wonderful church picnic in our Fellowship Hall after worship. The smiles, food, and games all added up to a to a fun time for all. We celebrated our youth on Sunday, June 9. Our elementary young people listened to a message from Pastor Jack and were awarded with certificates for taking part in our Kidz Club program. They were then dismissed to play games upstairs with Lorlie, our Faith Formation Director.
Later in the service, we heard a beautiful duet from Joey P. and our accompanist, Colin Keating. For our meditation, we were able to hear from 3 of our graduates. Alexa and Ben graduated from college and Joey is graduating from high school. Joey was this year's recipient of the Gordon Williams Scholarship which Jerry Holbrook was able to present to him during the service. Dear United Methodists of Upper New York,
The summer camping season is upon us. We cherish this time of connecting with campers, forging new and rekindling old friendships, creating memories, and experiencing firsthand the power of Christ! Camp is all about participating in exciting programs, trying new things, engaging in powerful music and spiritual conversations, and much more. Our Upper New York Camp & Retreat Ministry sites are doing all the needed work to journey with children and youth from across the state in the weeks ahead to grow in their discipleship together. Four of our sites are on track with their enrollment goals and are ready to offer the experience we expect of our Camp & Retreat Centers for campers, families, staff, and volunteers. As Casowasco prepared for the summer, it became clear we were not able to provide the same quality of experience. Rather than cancel camp, we decided to make a significant change to provide the same level of excellence expected. We are relocating Casowasco programs to other UNY sites. It will be the same Casowasco fun and the same Casowasco quality with Casowasco staff, but at different locations. We are calling this summer, “Casowasco on the Road,” and believe it is the best way to continue to provide the kind of experience we expect for our children and youth. Camper families have been updated about this change and given the opportunity to join “Casowasco on the Road,” or to receive a full refund if they choose not to attend. This reminds us of a scenario school districts experience from time to time. When a school building requires a major renovation, students are housed at another school while their building is upgraded. This plan is like that; we need to make some changes to the Casowasco operation, and to do that well, we need to house summer camp at a different location this year. We ask that you pray for the staff, campers, and volunteers as they embark on a life changing summer, deepening their faith and relationship with God. Pray especially for Casowasco campers and staff so that they feel at home, even in unfamiliar places. The UNY Camps & Retreats Ministry will provide updates throughout the year and we look forward to the time we can gather for community once again on the shores of Owasco Lake.
