Church & Community News & Events
Immanuel United Methodist Church has a lot going on. And, we are active in the community. Check back here to see the latest activities.
Our Fellowship team hosted two dinner and a movie nights. The first was Saturday, October 15, 2022. They watched the movie "The Case for Christ", a moving story about one man's journey from atheism to faith. The food and conversation were wonderful.
Get excited for Upper New York’s new bishop, Bishop Héctor Burgos who will begin on Jan. 1, 2023. He wants to be on a first-name basis with you, so he asks that you call him Bishop Héctor.
Bishop Héctor is thrilled with the strong missional foundation we have in Upper New York! He has five priorities when working among the clergy and laity of our Conference. Watch his video, giving you a warm welcome and outlining his priorities. On Sunday, December 4, we shared some Christmas cheer with residents at Brookdale Summerfield senior living. Our "elves" led the group in singing and shared the wonderful sound of ringing bells. A great time was had by all. Our Annual Election day Turkey dinner was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Many hands helped make a delicious dinner. We are grateful to our community for supporting us! Honor Flight Syracuse posted this to their Facebook page, celebrating Immanuel United Methodist member, Joe Honis: "Honor Flight Syracuse celebrated the 100th birthday of WWII Army veteran Joseph Honis on Monday, December 5th. HFS volunteers delivered our birthday sign, balloons and patriotic quilt to Joe at his home where he was surrounded by his family and friends. The Solvay Fire Department led a drive-by caravan past Joe's house while Piper Jack Heins played his bagpipe and The Sentimental Serenade serenaded the group with an assortment of military songs. Joe served in the US Army from January 1943 to December 1945. He was in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland as part of the 3505 Medium Maintenance Ordinance. He was responsible for ensuring the army vehicles were in working order. He was not in combat but moved behind the front lines. After the war, Joe and his Army buddies kept in touch and had reunions every Labor Day weekend up until recently. They were a tight knit group of men with a special bond. We thank you for your service, Joe, and wish you a very Happy Birthday." We at Immanuel United Methodist also wish Joe the best, and thank him for his service! Our newly assigned Bishop is newly elected Bishop Hector Burgos beginning January 1, 2023. He was consecrated Friday morning.

United Methodists and others wishing to provide humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian people in the wake of the Russian invasion of their country may contribute to Advance #982450, UMCOR International Disaster Response and Recovery. This fund will provide direct assistance to those in Ukraine as well as assistance to Ukrainians fleeing to neighboring countries.

On December 4th the church's yard was transported back to the birth of our Savior.
There was a stable, angels, shepherds and of course real animals! It was a magical evening and there were even a few snow flurries! A heartfelt and sincere thank you is extended to everyone who helped tell the Christmas story and made it so special. Our Annual Election Day Turkey Dinner was a HUGE SUCCESS! We SOLD OUT 340 dinners!
